Exhibition “Leonhard Lapin. Void and Space”

Leonhard Lapin has been active in the art scene for 50 years and is considered one of the founders of Estonian pop art and a classic of the neo-avant-garde. His oeuvre stretches from graphic art and painting to installation and performance, from architectural criticism and essays on art to poetry. The exhibition provides an overview of the various stages of his career.

For the first time in independent Estonia, on three evenings, the best pianists of our time will perform the best Estonian piano music of the century. In addition to classics, new pieces will also be performed at the festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. For example, new pieces by Jüri Reinvere, Tõnu Kõrvits, and Tõnis Kaumann will be performed in addition to the classic pieces by Eduard Tubin, Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Ester Mägi, and other Estonian composers.

Runic Song Room is a series of events where experienced traditional musicians will be fore-singers and participants will have the opportunity to sing along. This time there will be a chance to sing with Karmen Linnamäe. She has studied psychology but is currently active in music therapy. In her work, she has also used the runic song and its elements.

Winter Jazz 2018

Concert series “Winter Jazz” takes place at Kumu auditorium and there will be prominent musicians from six European countries. “Winter Jazz” takes you to the depths of the cimbalom sounds from the far reaches of the galaxy. On February 17 the multi-instrumentalist Mihály Borbély will perform with his new project Polygon, inspired by folk music, world music, jazz and contemporary music. Borbley is a recognized saxophonist, clarinetist and multi-instrumentalist. The trio’s music has a special color given by the sounds of Hungarian folk instrument cimbalom.
