The events of the rock-opera 'The Evil Island' are taking place thousand years ago in Saaremaa. There are seven main characters, including the head of the Vikings Rullo (Marko Matvere), blacksmith Vesse (Ott Lepland), his beloved Frost Girl (Lenna Kuurmaa), Old Devil Uude (Tõnis Mägi), his son Tölpa (Andrus Bonzo Albrecht), a nun Birgitta (Kristel Aaslaid), and the fire fairy Laurits (Markus Teeäär). The female chamber choir Sireen and the Estonian National Male Choir RAM are transformed into diverse characters such as seals, junipers, Vikings, and others.

Rein Rannap: "I have been experimenting with something similar to rock-operas in my works 'The Process' (1975) and 'Greedy Woman' (1981), and some attempts have been made at the Nukuteater. Also, Vanemuine's production "Ruja" has been put together of my songs, but these are not operas, in these, the dialogue carries the story forward, the music is interspersed. But now, in 'The Evil Island' there's singing, singing all the time!"
