Seto kostipäiv or Pop-up Café Day

Pop-up Café Day takes place once a year in August, about one week after the Seto Kingdom Day festival. The cafes can be found in the most widespread places.

Seto food is nutritious and healthy – invariably sourced from fresh components. The contemporary version of the Seto cuisine can be tasted year round in establishments such as the Seto Tsäimaja, Taarka tare, and Setomaa Turismitalo. On Popup Café Day, we will showcase our finest home chefs and the most scenic places in our villages.

In 2017, it will be the fifth Popup Café Day. It has become a veritable festival for homemakers and farm folk – people eagerly think ahead and start preparing for it as soon as the snow melts in spring. At some cafés, Pop-up Café Day will last for two days - Saturday and Sunday. The cafés’ menus are varied, but many places served classics such as sõir cheese, suulliim soup, and kikkaseenepiirak (chanterelle mushroom pie). Every café has its takeaway section as well. On Sunday, an after-party day will take place in four cafes, which will continue to serve food as long as the supplies last. The cafes that are open on Sunday are marked with an asterisk (*).
